Guided Prayer

Bitterness and Resentment

One · Pause

Be still for a moment. Breathe in slowly, and out slowly — three times. There is no hurry here, and no one is watching.

Be still, and know that I am God.

Psalm 46:10 · KJV

Two · Check in

What have you been replaying? How long has it been growing?

Three · Scripture · King James Version

Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God, lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;

Hebrews 12:15 · KJV

Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:

Ephesians 4:31 · KJV

Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

Romans 12:19 · KJV

Four · Reflection

Bitterness is a root; it grows quietly and spreads. Vengeance belongs to God, which means you are allowed to put it down.

Five · Pray this

Father, bitterness has taken root in me and I do not want it. I give the judgment back to You — You repay justly. Pull up this root and keep my heart soft. In Jesus' name, amen.

Six · Now in your own words

Hand the case to God: 'This is Yours to judge, not mine to carry.'

Seven · Private journal

What I keep rehearsing, and what I am ready to hand over.

Eight · One practical step

Stop one conversation or thought loop that feeds it.

Before you go

You can be honest about the wrong and still be free of it.
