Guided Prayer

Marriage Struggles

One · Pause

Be still for a moment. Breathe in slowly, and out slowly — three times. There is no hurry here, and no one is watching.

Be still, and know that I am God.

Psalm 46:10 · KJV

Two · Check in

What has been hardest between you lately? What do you miss?

Three · Scripture · King James Version

With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Ephesians 4:2–3 · KJV

Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

1 Corinthians 13:4–7 · KJV

Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.

Ecclesiastes 4:9–10 · KJV

Four · Reflection

Love in Scripture is described as endurance, kindness, and patience — not constant ease. Two are better than one, especially when one has fallen.

Five · Pray this

Lord, this marriage is strained and I need Your help. Give us longsuffering and kindness. Soften both of us, and keep us endeavouring toward peace instead of away from each other. In Jesus' name, amen.

Six · Now in your own words

Pray for your spouse by name before praying about them.

Seven · Private journal

One thing I am grateful for in them, and one thing I need to say kindly.

Eight · One practical step

Choose one kind act today, and consider inviting a wise counselor or pastor in.

Before you go

Struggling does not mean failing. If there is any abuse or fear for your safety, seek immediate help from trusted people and local authorities.
