Guided Prayer
One · Pause
Be still for a moment. Breathe in slowly, and out slowly — three times. There is no hurry here, and no one is watching.
Be still, and know that I am God.
Psalm 46:10 · KJV
Two · Check in
Can you name anything you feel — even 'nothing'? That counts.
If you are in crisis, please reach out now
In the United States, call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, available day and night. If you are in immediate danger, call 911 or your local emergency number. Prayer can support professional mental-health care, but it should not replace it.
Three · Scripture · King James Version
“Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”
Romans 8:26 · KJV
“How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me? How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily? how long shall mine enemy be exalted over me?”
Psalm 13:1–2 · KJV
“The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”
Psalm 34:18 · KJV
Four · Reflection
When you cannot find words, the Spirit intercedes with groanings that cannot be uttered. The Psalms include 'how long, O LORD?' — flat, honest prayers belong in Scripture.
Five · Pray this
God, I feel nothing, and I do not know how to pray. Let Your Spirit pray for me. Be near even when I cannot sense You, and bring feeling back gently. In Jesus' name, amen.
Six · Now in your own words
Sit in silence for one minute and let the Spirit pray for you.
Seven · Private journal
When I last felt like myself, and what has changed since then.
Eight · One practical step
Tell one trusted person that you have been feeling numb, and consider talking with a doctor or counselor.
Before you go
Numbness is not faithlessness. Prayer can walk alongside professional care, and reaching out is a good step.
